Katelyn received the BEST surprise; one that just sparkled with kindness! One gentleman's kindness turned led to the Packed with Kindness Backpack Giveaway.
At a food drive following the tornado in the Fox Valley, a gentleman named Wayne Martin walked up to WFRV reporter Stacy Engebretson and said he had seen her episode with Katelyn on Off the Desk about her Kid Kind Bags. Katelyn made over 120+ Kid Kind Bags, which were cool tie-dye drawstring bags filled with toys, treats, shelf-stable drinks and snacks, books, and games for kids affected by the tornado. Wayne wanted to support her initiative in helping kids and generously donated $200 for Katelyn to make a bigger impact! Stacy reached out to Katelyn to share the news!
Katelyn is so honored and thankful for Wayne's donation and used the funds for several levels. A portion of the funds went towards supplies to make even more Kid Kind Bags for the Kid Kind Bag Pop-Up plus a supply box for a large Menasha family who lost everything in the storm. The funds then helped Katelyn purchase four backpacks which she filled with school supplies for the raffle.
Shopping was a lot of fun and Katelyn personally picked out the backpacks; a Hello Kitty style, Frozen, Jurassic Park and Ninja Turtles. She then picked out markers, colored pencils, crayons, glue, glue sticks, folders, notebooks and other supplies for each backpack and filled them with the help of her brother Lucas. Each of the bags also came with lunch boxes and headphones, which was a cool addition!
Thank you, Stacy Engebretson Wfrv for facilitating this wonderful connection and thank you so much Wayne for helping Katelyn make a difference in her community. On a special note, Katelyn was over-the-moon to find out Wayne is a Vietnam veteran. If you know Katelyn, you know how much she loves and appreciates her veterans! Thank you so much for your service, Wayne! You continue to be a positive role model and protector for your community.
Stay tuned! Winners will be drawn LIVE by Katelyn herself on 8/22 at 6PM CST on the
Katelyn's Kindness Wisconsin Facebook page here.
